Dinner and Performance honoring Princess Grace Award winners

 Michael Wilson and Rui Rita
December 4, 2008

On Thursday, December 4, 2008, The Princess Grace Foundation will host a dinner honoring Princess Grace Award winners Michael Wilson and Rui Rita their accomplishments in direction and lighting design in the Broadway production of Diving the Estate. Dinner will take place pre-performance at Angus McIndoe and the play will begin shortly thereafter at The Booth Theatre.

Director Michael Wilson is now in his 10th season as artistic director of Hartford Stage and has overseen sixty-one new productions for the theatre. He has directed twenty-three new productions, including the premieres of Enchanted April; Horton Foote’s The Carpetbagger’s Children (off Broadway, Lincoln Center Theater) and Eve Ensler’s Necessary Targets (Off-Broadway.) From 1990 to 2002, he was privileged to have as his stage manager the late Wendy Beaton, with whom he collaborated on over 17 productions in four American cities and in Venice.  Michael received the Princess Grace Theater Fellowship Award in 1992 and in 2001 was awarded the Princess Grace Statue Award.

Rui Rita, Lighting Designer of Dividing the Estate, has worked on Lincoln Center Theater productions Big Bill, The Carpetbagger’s Children, Far East, and Ancestral Voices. Rui’s Broadway productions include Old Acquaintance, Enchanted April, The Price, and A Thousand Clowns. Rui received the Princess Grace 1999 Theater Fellowship Award.

All proceeds from the night’s performance and dinner will support the Princess Grace Foundation-USA’s mission to support emerging talent in theater, dance and film.
