Junior Achievement of New York Celebrates
Annual Leadership Awards Gala
October 23, 2008

The Pointer Sisters to sing praises of honorees Amex CEO,
Kenneth Chenault & National Grid Chairman, Bob Catell
for outstanding leadership & philanthropic contributions

New York, NY, September 30, 2008 - Today, Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) announced its 2008 Honorees to be celebrated at the 7th Annual JANY Leadership Awards Gala, Thursday, October 23rd, 7:30 p.m. at The World Financial Center Winter Garden.  Maurice DuBois, co-anchor of WCBS's News This Morning, will host the evening's festivities celebrating the outstanding achievements of this year's honorees. Special performances by Grammy Award-winning Pop/R&B recording act, The Pointer Sisters and Show Stoppin', one of Six Flags theme park's popular song and dance ensembles, will make JANY's 2008 Gala a night to remember.

The JANY Leadership Awards Gala recognizes ordinary individuals who have made extraordinary contributions in support of JANY's mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  Each honoree displays exemplary leadership skills that reflect JANY's values of integrity, respect and excellence. This year, two exceptional business leaders and an outstanding NYC student will be honored.
Kenneth Chenault
BUSINESS LEADER OF THE YEAR
Kenneth Chenault, CEO and Chairman, American Express
will receive the Business Leader of the Year Award.  Since completing his service as a JANY Board Member, Mr. Chenault remains committed to encouraging our youth to achieve. As a result of Mr. Chenault's leadership, the American Express Company has become JANY's largest corporate Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser.

Bob CatellLIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
Bob Catell, Chairman of National Grid
will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Catell's invaluable service to JANY began in the late eighties when he began his tenure as Board Member. His impact continues today; he recently led National Grid in launching their first ever JANY Bowl-A-Thon. Combined with past KeySpan JANY Bowl-A-Thons, Mr. Catell has helped raise nearly $1.5 million to date.

STUDENT LEADER OF THE YEAR
Recent high school graduate, Xiang Siow will receive the Student Leader of the Year Award. Mr. Siow was a JANY Student Ambassador while enrolled at Stuyvesant High School in New York City. He exudes the qualities that constitute a JANY Student Ambassador - leadership, success, service and passion for enterprise. In addition to his time in JANY professional development, Xiang participated in the High School Heroes Program, teaching elementary students to become financially literate; he shadowed professionals at WCBS-TV and WNBC-TV; and he participated in speaking engagements focused on the financial literacy empowerment of students. He is currently a freshman at the University of Chicago.

"The JANY Leadership Awards honorees believe that with a good education and the right knowledge, guidance and opportunities, every child has the potential to become the next CEO of a Fortune 500 company or a budding entrepreneur, regardless of the circumstances they were brought up in," said Doug Schallau, president of JANY.  "Kenneth Chenault, Bob Catell and Xiang Siow are all pioneers of achievement.  They are examples of excellence for us all and we honor them for providing committed and inspired leadership."

The presenting sponsor of the 2008 Gala Awards is American Express and the title sponsor is National Grid.

The event will be attended by over 400 Fortune 500 CEOs, corporate and business leaders as well as JANY's education and community partners. For table reservations and ticket information, contact chemmer@jany.org or visit the JANY web site www.jany.org.
