NEW YORK – Caron New raised over $1.2 Million to benefit Caron’s Patient Scholarship Fund at its 21st Annual New York City Gala. These funds will support patient scholarships for adolescent and young adult addicted individuals and families throughout Caron’s treatment continuum.. A significant portion of the money raised will help individuals from the greater New York area.

Over five hundred guests attended the Gala held at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan on May 13, 2015. which honored Mick Jones and Petra Levin and featured a special performance by Foreigner. The Auctioneer for the evening was Ira Joe Fisher.

Denise LeFrak Calicchio presented the Richard J. Caron Award to community leader and philanthropist Petra Levin. Ms. Levin shared, “I am so pleased to be honored by Caron New York and to help provide scholarship assistance to adolescent and young adult individuals and families. Caron believes it is crucial to provide resources for the recovery and healing of the entire family because addiction is a family disease and I am dedicated to helping support their outstanding work.”

Oscar, Grammy, and Golden-Globe winner Paul Williams presented the Caron Artist Award to Mick Jones. Mr. Jones stated, “I’m thrilled to be receiving this award from Caron. I applaud them for their outstanding work with families who are rebuilding their lives. I hope to bring continued awareness to the problem of addiction and to Caron’s leadership in this arena.”

“We are thrilled to honor such special individuals at this year’s Caron New York Gala,” said Todd Whitmer, Regional Vice President of Caron New York. “Petra and Mick are both extremely dedicated to raising awareness about addiction and giving families a second chance at life.”

Last year, with the help of our generous donors in New York and nationwide, Caron provided nearly $16 million in treatment scholarships to addicted individuals and families with limited resources. A significant portion of that aid went to help individuals from the greater New York area. Funds raised at the Gala will support patient scholarships throughout Caron’s continuum at Caron Pennsylvania and Caron Renaissance to further their mission of providing Recovery For Life through unique services offered for adolescents, their families, and adults. Caron New York offers screening and education, provides a healthy recovery environment for alumni activities, and holds Parent Support Groups throughout the New York region..

Richard J. Caron Award recipient Petra Levin is an active civic and community leader living in South Florida. She has served on Caron’s Board of Trustees in Pennsylvania, The American Folk Art Museum in New York, and the Caron Renaissance Board in Florida. She is currently on the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach Board of Trustees, and the Institute of Contemporary Art Board of Trustees in Miami.

Caron Artist Award recipient Mick Jones is founder and lead guitarist of Foreigner and a visionary maestro whose stylistic songwriting, indelible guitar hooks, and production talents are responsible for some of the greatest rock anthems ever written. With ten multi-platinum albums and sixteen Top 30 hits, Jones is a “musician’s musician,” having also produced records for others such as Billy Joel and Van Halen. He has been nominated for both Grammys and Golden Globes.

Event co-chairs include the following: Denise LeFrak Calicchio and John Calicchio, Robert DeForest, Ann Dexter-Jones, Tracey Jackson, Elaine & Ken Langone, Stephen A. Levin, Monte Lipman, Daphne Nikolopoulos, Juliana Terian, and Paul Williams.

The Gala Steering Committee includes Neil Lasher and Judith Ryan (Co-Chairs), Allen H. Arrow, Jennifer Bandier, Karen Fitzgerald, John P. Fitzsimons, Susan Fromm, Molly Helfet, Doreen Heyman, Susan Knee, Maxine Lang, Marybeth Marchand, Steve Martin, Miles Rubin, Jay Springer, Marsha Starr, David Stern, and Kaitlin Zintak.
