Roberta and Stanley Bogen opened their
Palm Beach home for a reception to kick
off the American Friends of The Hebrew
University’s 2013 Scopus Award Gala,
to be held on Sunday, January 20th at
The Breakers, with a special performance
planned by Broadway and television star
Megan Hilty.
The kickoff event took place Dec. 22 and
honored the chairmen and executive
committee members for the Gala.
Special guests at the
reception were Barbara and Richard
Rothschild, who will be honored at the
gala.
Dinner Chairmen for the black-tie event
are Linda and Peter Berley, Roberta and
Stanley Bogen, Barbara and Jack Kay, and
Judy and Robert Snyder. Honorary
Chairmen are Lois and Martin Zelman.
Attending the kickoff reception at the

Founded in 2009 to
alleviate the acute shortage of military
physicians in Israel, the Elite Military
Track of Medicine at The Hebrew
University of Jerusalem is a
collaborative effort of The Hebrew
University Faculty of Medicine, the
Israel Defense Forces and the Israeli
Ministry of Defense.
The Scopus Awards Gala caps off the day
of events presented by American Friends
of Hebrew University. Also on January
20th, AFHU will present ALEF 2013, the
Annual Leadership Education Forum at The
Four Seasons Hotel in Palm Beach.
“Forging New Frontiers, Transcending New
Challenges,” will include breakfast and
lunch, as well as the program, featuring
keynote speakers Dr. Richard Haass,
President, Council on Foreign Relations,
and Ambassador Ron Prosor, Israel’s
permanent representative to the United
Nations.
The educational forum, which begins at
8:00 a.m. and concludes at 2:30 p.m.,
will include the following topics: The
Jewish State on the Global Stage, The
Changing Face of Middle East Politics:
The American and Israeli Perspective and
Breakthroughs in Brain Science Research.
Other speakers include: Ambassador
Efraim Halevy, General Michael Hayden,
Ambassador Stuart A. Bernstein,
Professor Eilon Vaadia, Dr. Ami Citri
and Professor Menahem Ben-Sasson.
Proceeds from both events benefit The
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which
was founded in 1918 by Albert Einstein,
Chaim Weizmann, Sigmund Freud and
others. Today the University has a
student body of 23,000, a faculty of
1,000 and attracts students from Israel
as well as from 50 countries around the
world.
