On Wednesday, April 17, 2013 the New York Region of the
American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science
held a Gala dinner at The Pierre in New York City. The
Gala’s theme, In Celebration of Science, honored more
than 60 years of research and discovery at the Weizmann
Institute in Israel, where scientists have been helping to
solve humanity’s greatest challenges – including hunger,
disease and protecting the environment. Presenters included
Chair of the New York Executive Committee, Russell Dekker
and American Committee Executive Vice President and CEO,
Marshall Levin.
American Committee Chairman Lawrence Blumberg, a
third-generation Weizmann supporter, also spoke at the
event alongside Institute President Professor Daniel
Zajfman. Professor Yadin Dudai of the Department
of Neurobiology spoke about the Weizmann Institute
collaborations taking place in New York. Additionally, the
Gala honored Professor Michael Sela, a member of the
Weizmann Institute since 1950 and former president, and
his wife Sara Sela. Professor Sela continues in active
research in the Department of Immunology, which he founded.
