PALM BEACH – A glowing full moon provided the final touch on a perfect stargazing evening as Kathryn and Leo Vecellio welcomed chairmen and supporters of “A Night For Sight” aboard their new M/Y Lady Kathryn V, at a kickoff reception for the Schepens Eye Research Institute’s benefit dinner event held the following evening at The Breakers.

As the Vecellios welcomed each guest in the main salon of their 201-foot vessel, music was provided by a member of the LKV crew on the ship’s baby grand piano. The newly christened motor yacht arrived in Palm Beach for the reception, which included tours of the ship and a special auction, chaired by Julie Rudolph.

“Schepens Eye Research Institute was indeed honored to have been hosted by the Vecellios in such a magnificent setting,” reported Kenneth Fischer, Director of the Institute, which was celebrating its 60th Anniversary and its new union with Massachusetts Eye and Ear at The Breakers the following evening. “Kathryn and Leo Vecellio have been ardent supporters of Schepens for over 30 years, and we are grateful to them for their steadfast support as well as their generosity in hosting this memorable reception.”

Mrs. Vecellio has been a trustee at the Institute and has chaired every event for Schepens in Palm Beach along with other distinguished supporters. She most recently joined the board of directors of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Foundation.

Enjoying the evening were Kay and Peter Lyons and Nancy and Walter Raquet. Mrs. Lyons and Mrs. Raquet served as trustee chairmen for “A Night For Sight,” with Hermé de Wyman Miro as grand honorary chairman and Judith Murat Grubman as honorary chairman. Event chairmen were: Colleen Bain, Caroline Collings, Linda Salandra-Dweck, Michele Kessler, Sandra Krakoff,

Anne Moran, Monika Preston, Joan Rubin, Julie Rudolph, Laurie Silvers and Andrea Stark.

Other guests of honor at the floating reception included Joan W. Miller, M.D., Chief and Chair of Ophthalmology at Mass. Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School; John Fernandez, President of Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Beth Pine, Vice President Neiman Marcus Palm Beach, who provided a runway fashion show of the Monique Lhuillier 2012 Collection the following evening. Grand benefactors included John Domenico and Daniel Fountain of U.S. Trust; Jeffrey Bateman and Jeffrey Sabean of Tiffany & Co., Suzanne Sek of Louis Vuitton Palm Beach, Gunster Law, The Bruce Halle Family Foundation, Kay and Peter Lyons, Monika and John Preston and Nancy and Walter Raquet, and Hermé de Wyman Miro.
