On June 2, 2007, nearly 500 glamorous guests gathered at "The
Ruins" at Kennelot Stables in celebration of the Bruce
Museum's 20th Anniversary Renaissance Ball. This year's exotic
theme, "Jewels of India," not only treated attendees to
Indian-inspired decor, music and cuisine, but also honored the
past chairmen of the Ball. Indian Consul General Mrs. Neelam
Deo, honorary Chairman of the Ball, joined in the celebration
of India
and its culture.
Ball Co-chairmen Arianne Faber Kolb, Jean Doyen de Montaillou,
Laura Heery Prozes and Ellen Tobin Reid led the efforts to
organize an evening to remember as well as an ambitious
schedule of pre-Ball events. Scores of committee members and
others joined in building enthusiasm and camaraderie with
pre-Ball festivities including a special party at Baccarat,
Men's Committee xx at Miller Motor Cars, Patron Party at the
waterfront home of Mrs. John Weinberg for Patron and Angel
ticket holders.
Under the outdoor tent, the back country Greenwich setting was
transformed into a luxurious evening in India. The menu by
Marcia Selden Catering began with a crisp Bengal crab cake and
watermelon tower and moved on to a delectable entree of petite
filet of beef with roasted tomato relish and wild mushroom
bordelaise accompanied by sweet pea, carrot and chick pea
confetti, golden cauliflower, baskets of warm naan, and a trio
of chutneys: cilantro, red onion and tamarind. The dessert of
bruleed rice with pistachio and raisins, and cardamom scented
chocolate shard and pistachio brittle topped the delightful
repast.
Fabulous Live Auction items, acquired under the direction of
chairman Julia Berger, featured stunning Bulgari jewels, a
cocktail party for 50, and trips for adventurers. Successful
bidders won a bike tour of India, a magical trip to The
European Fine Art Fair in the Netherlands, a thrilling stunt
plane ride over San Francisco Bay
and more.
Silent auction Co-chairmen Pari Kreutter Hirsch and Lydia West
gathered an amazing array of auction items to tempt all-from
gourmet dinners and fitness classes to stunning jewels and
paradise escapes.
As they departed, guests received gift bags the include
ladies' blouses generously donated by Julie B in Greenwich.
The Renaissance Ball is the major Museum fundraiser, raising
approximately 16% of the Museum's annual operating budget
through ticket sales and auction purchases. Proceeds from the
evening are allocated to education programs and exhibitions.
