T. Denny Sanford has committed $100
million to the creation of the Sanford Stem Cell
Clinical Center at the University of California, San
Diego – the second largest donation in UC San Diego’s
history. This donation from the billionaire
philanthropist is among the 15 largest gifts nationwide
this year and takes him past $1 billion in lifetime
giving.
The Sanford Stem Cell Center will bring the promise of
stem cell research to patients through clinical trials,
allowing UC San Diego to deliver new cures and therapies
to the people who need it most.
Medicine and health care are the focus of Sanford’s philanthropy because
he feels they have the biggest impact on people’s lives.
The South Dakota businessman, who has a home in La
Jolla, Calif., amassed his fortune as owner of major
credit card companies.
