ABOUT OPENING DAY:
Opening Day is the
kick-off day for the week-long Hampton
Classic Horse Show, which this year
takes place August 24-31. For one week
70 acres of year-round barren land are
transformed into a bustling horsey mini
city. Opening Day is about the local
Hamptons and
Long Island horse enthusiasts whether on horseback or in the
audience. As the first day of the horse
show, it paves the way for the Olympic
veterans and nation’s finest
equestrians who start their competitions
that afternoon in the
Nicolock Time Challenge which kicks off
at
1:00 PM. On Opening Day the local riders can compete under the very same
prestigious conditions at one of the
finest horse shows in the world. Ms.
Cohn will also be competing at this
year’s Hampton Classic just as she has
many times before.
Ms.
Cohn
is both a rider and the President/CEO of
the Manhattan Mortgage Company, which
she founded in 1985. She is an expert in
the mortgage field and in 2007 was
recognized with a Stevie
Award, touted as the business world
Oscars. Also in 2007, she was named “#1
Mortgage Originator” in the nation by
Mortgage Originator Magazine. In
May 2008, she was recognized as one of
“The 100 Most Powerful People in New
York Real Estate” by The New York
Observer. For the past three years
(2006-2008) Development New York
Magazine has recognized Ms. Cohn as
one of the “Top 20 Women in Real Estate
and Construction.”
Cohn is a well known philanthropist and
was honored in May 2007 with the Spirit
of Life award from City of
Hope
for her charitable work. Some of her
causes include Volunteers of America,
Habitat for Humanity, Child Development
Center of the Hamptons, the American
Cancer Society, March of Dimes and The
Retreat.
Ms. Cohn began her sponsorship of
Opening Day because she wanted to give
back to the community that has supported
her. She continues to sponsor year
after year for that very same reason.
When she started with the Hampton
Classic her company was just ten years
old and still growing. Now 13 years
later she continues to be named the Top
Mortgage Originator in the nation and
last year negotiated over 3 billion in
originations.
