On Thursday, December 4,
2008, The Princess Grace
Foundation will host a
dinner honoring Princess
Grace Award winners
Michael Wilson and Rui
Rita their
accomplishments in
direction and lighting
design in the Broadway
production of
Diving the Estate.
Dinner will take place
pre-performance at Angus
McIndoe and the play
will begin shortly
thereafter at The Booth
Theatre.
Director Michael Wilson
is now in his 10th
season as artistic
director of Hartford
Stage and has overseen
sixty-one new
productions for the
theatre. He has directed
twenty-three new
productions, including
the premieres of
Enchanted April;
Horton Foote’s
The Carpetbagger’s
Children (off
Broadway, Lincoln Center
Theater) and Eve
Ensler’s
Necessary Targets
(Off-Broadway.) From
1990 to 2002, he was
privileged to have as
his stage manager the
late Wendy Beaton, with
whom he collaborated on
over 17 productions in
four American cities and
in Venice. Michael
received the Princess
Grace Theater Fellowship
Award in 1992 and in
2001 was awarded the
Princess Grace Statue
Award.
Rui Rita, Lighting
Designer of
Dividing the Estate,
has worked on Lincoln
Center Theater
productions
Big Bill,
The Carpetbagger’s
Children,
Far East, and
Ancestral Voices.
Rui’s Broadway
productions include
Old Acquaintance,
Enchanted April,
The Price,
and
A Thousand Clowns.
Rui received the
Princess Grace 1999
Theater Fellowship
Award.
All proceeds from the
night’s performance and
dinner will support the
Princess Grace
Foundation-USA’s mission
to support emerging
talent in theater, dance
and film.
