Boca Raton,
FL – Plans are underway for
The Haven Day at the
Races, Sunday, April 19,
2009 at Gulfstream Park. The
unique event will feature a
lavish brunch, silent
auction, raffle,
entertainment and live
horseracing.
Honorary
Chairs Peter and Anne Vegso,
were the inspiration for the
theme and venue. Horseracing
enthusiasts as well as
owners of thoroughbred
horses, the Vegso’s are
long-time supporters of the
programs and services of The
Haven.
Since the
establishment of the Vegso
Family Foundation in
1977, Peter and Anne have
devoted much of their time
and money to projects
benefitting people in need.
Peter Vegso is the
owner of Health
Communications, Inc. (HCI),

book publisher best known
for the Chicken Soup for
the Soul series.
Event chairs
are Janice Williams and
Lynda Levitsky, both highly
regarded in the community
for their dedication and
commitment to charitable
causes. “I am delighted to
be a part of this
extraordinary event,” said
Williams. “This is surely a
wonderful way for people to
contribute to the important
work of The Haven while
having lots of fun,” she
added. Levitsky, who had
just returned from a visit
to The Haven explained,
“once I met the boys at The
Haven and learned more about
how their life situations
are significantly changed by
having a safe, loving
environment to call home, I
knew I had to be involved.”
An exciting
range of unique,
custom-tailored sponsorship
opportunities are available
that include sponsor-named
horse races, winner’s circle
celebrations, crawl board
recognition and
acknowledgement on the
Gulfstream Jumbotron.
The Haven,
founded in 1976, is a group
home for adolescent boys,
ages 9-17, who have been
removed from abusive and
neglectful homes and placed
in protective care by the
State of Florida. The
Haven’s programs are
designed to foster the
development of each young
man’s self-esteem and
independence in a safe,
loving and stable
environment while teaching
the skills necessary for
them to become
self-sufficient and proud
adults. The Haven is
nationally accredited by the
Council on Accreditation (COA),
and recently received its
fourth-consecutive four-star
rating from Charity
Navigator, a national
charity watchdog group. For
