 Opening Ceremony to Honor Fashion Industry
 Icons and Leaders

 

New York, NY    - The Thurgood Marshall College Fund celebrates the spirit of innovation in fashion with a presentation of the designs of some of today’s leading African American and Hispanic fashion designers at its 3rd Annual Front Row Fashion Show on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Roseland Ballroom, 239 West 52nd Street in Manhattan from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Hosted by Law & Order SVU actress Tamara Tunie, Front Row will take place during Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s 21st Anniversary Weekend and feature the extraordinary designs of: Douglas Says, Edward Wilkerson for Lafayette 148, SIXXfoota, Stephen Burrows, Steven Cutting, Tracey Reese, Johnny Vincent, Sean John, Miguel Antoinne, Xiomara, and the lavish Hollywood red carpet gowns of Kevan Hall.

In keeping with tradition, Front Row will also recognize some of the fashion industry’s top African American professionals and style icons who have advanced and influenced style around the globe. The 2008 Fashion Icon Award and newly created Breaking Barriers Award will be presented to honorees in recognition of their industry achievements. Honorees include: model/actor Tyson Beckford; international make-up artist Ross Burton; celebrity hairstylist Oscar James; supermodel/actress Beverly Johnson; famed photographer Keith Major; full-figured specialty retailer Ashley Stewart; and fashion doyenne and entrepreneur Audrey Smaltz.

 

Presenters for Front Row include:  Singer and actress, Vanessa Williams, Legendary Model Agent, Bethann Hardison, Journalist, Harriette Cole and a host of others.

 

 

 “The Front Row Fashion Show provides a unique venue for some of the nation’s leading fashion designers to showcase their talents and creativity, while giving the event’s attendees a rare opportunity to celebrate honorees’ contributions to the world of style, fashion and industry leadership,” said Dwayne Ashley, President & CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Inc. “This event is also certainly about honoring individuals who embody leadership, commitment and service in their respective professions and in doing so, opened doors of opportunity to young people, which is at the heart of the TMCF’s mission.”

As part of keeping their scholars involved in the event, Thurgood Marshall College Fund held a model contest open to students currently enrolled at a four-year accredited college or university. Four students were selected to appear in Front Row Fashion Show.

The 3rd Annual Front Row Fashion Show is sponsored by Mercedes- Benz, Moet & Chandon, American Airlines, MillersCoors, and Rushmoredrive.com Co-sponsors include Blu Magazine, Lancome and WalMart.

Emmy-award winning actress Lynn Whitfield is the event’s Honorary Chairperson.
