The new York Public Library honored John Hope Franklin, Jhumpa
Lahiri, Martin Scorsese, and Tom Stoppard at the Tenth
Anniversary Library Lions Benefit, held at the Humanities
and Social Sciences Library, Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street.
Tony
award-winning Actress Jennifer Ehle served as the Evening’s
Master of Ceremonies.
620 guests enjoyed cocktails in Astor Hall followed by
dinner and a program in the third floor main reading room.
They were
later joined by 500 additional guests for a dance party in
Astor Hall hosted by the Young Lions, a membership group of
New
Yorkers in their 20s and 30s who support the work of the
Library. The Library was lit by 4,000 candles for the
evening’s celebrations.
The evening raised 2.6 million dollars. All proceeds benefit
the Library’s General Book Fund. For more information please
