New York / May 6, 2008 -- Giorgio Armani, in a rare New York
appearance, addressed hundreds of cheering FIT students last
Tuesday. As part of their admission to see him, all of the
students were clad in t-shirts with a bold “I MET GIORGIO
ARMANI” across their chest. The students presented Armani
with a t-shirt that read “I MET THE STUDENTS,” which he
immediately put on while hugging the students and signing
autographs.
Giorgio Armani headed uptown to Hearst Tower afterwards to
meet FIT’s founding Couture Council Chairmen Liz Peek, Sarah
Wolfe, and Yaz Hernandez, where FIT presented him with the
first Couture Council Award for Global Fashion Leadership at
a gala luncheon. Armani arrived with his good friend, Glenn
Close, who presented him with the prestigious award. As she
gave him the award, she noted that she was on the
worst-dressed list before she met Mr. Armani, and that, “If
Giorgio Armani stopped
his fashion magic, I’d just stay in my jammies.”
Upstairs at Hearst, actresses Ziyi Zhang and Camilla Belle,
along with George Clooney’s girlfriend, Sarah Larson,
stopped to admire a beautiful Armani dress laden with
Swarovski crystals that was generously donated to the Museum
at FIT.
Guests included hosts Nadja Swarovski, and Harper’s Bazaar
