The Cancer Center celebrated its 15th anniversary this April.
Before its dedication in 1992, the Stamford community had two
options for cancer care and treatment – New Haven or New York
. Greenwich residents Carl and Dorothy Bennett donated $2
million and, in the process, helped open Fairfield County ’s
first community cancer care and treatment facility. In 1994,
the first Corporate Invitational took place and began its
annual fundraising drive for the center’s cancer research
efforts.
The Bennett Cancer Center offers the largest community-based
research center and clinical trials program in Fairfield
County . Currently, there are 30-40 trials available for a
wide range of cancers including lymphoma, breast, melanoma,
and multiple myeloma. The length of clinical trials varies –
from a few months to two years. Patients, if considered a
match, can option to take experimental drug treatments that
are currently in the second or third phase of research. |
