A benefit to fund scientific research for the treatment of
Down Syndrome was held on March 29, at the Ferrari Show Room
of the Miller Motorcars. Professor William Mobley, Director of
Neuroscience Institute, Stanford University, Ca. was one of
the guest speakers. He spoke about his research into the extra
chromosome that causes the cognitive problems in people with
Down Syndrome
Emily Perl Kingsley, scriptwriter for Sesame Street author of
‘Welcome to Holland’ and the winner of 12 Emmy Awards, spoke
on behalf of individuals afflicted with Down Syndrome. Emily
has a son with DS.
112 attendees patronizeded the event, which was a cocktail
reception, catered by Susan Kane Catering. A very exciting
live and silent auction included a signed drum head by Ringo
Star and Zak Starkey, American Ballet Theater and Metropolitan
Opera box seats, Guitar signed by Brian Wilson, Maserati for
the Weekend, and many more priceless items. Pari Kreutter
Hirsch, Markley Rizzi and Chelsea Kirwan co-chaired the event
and approximately $100,000 was raised from ticket sales as
well as auction items. Newman's Own Foundation donated
$10,000, there were several private donations of $10,000. Our
special thanks go to S.A.C. Foundation, Connecticut Down
Syndrome Congress, The Michael Bolton Charities and all others
