On March 8, 2007 The Foundation held its Annual New York
Spring Benefit Reception at the beautiful home of Denise Rich.
Rabbi March Schneier, President, and Russell Simmons, Chairman
presented five honorees with awards for their work and
dedication to the strengthening of ethnic relations, and their
commitment to diversity. The Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Awards
were presented to Joel Katz, Co-Managing Shareholder, Atlanta
Office Chair, Global Entertainment Practice, Greenberg Traurig,
Rodney M. Miller, Sr., Managing Director, Mergers &
Acquisitions Group, Credit Suisse, and Max L. Siegel, Pr
esident of Global Operations, Dale Earnhardt Inc. In addition,
The Foundation honored Maria Baibakova with the Joseph Papp
Young Leadership Award, for her efforts to set an example for
youth and for her outspoken efforts to promote understanding.
The last award of the evening, the Joseph Papp Corporate
Diversity Award, was presented to Wachovia for their
exceptional diversity record and their commitment to community
involvement.
200 guests were in attendance, including R&B and Gospel singer
Kelly Price, Jacob the Jeweler, Ter esa Earnhardt, and two of
The Foundation’s previous honorees, Tomas Cookman and John
Utendahl.
The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, under the leadership
of Rabbi Marc Schneier, President, and Russell Simmons,
Chairman, is a national non-profit organization dedicated to
promoting racial harmony and strengthening inter-group
relations. The Foundation, founded in 1989, has offices in New
