FORMER COMMISSIONER BETTY T. FERGUSON

FORMER COMMISSIONER BETTY T. FERGUSON

DELANCYHILL P.A HONORS
FORMER COMMISSIONER BETTY T. FERGUSON
For her spark in community engagement and grassroots organizing in South Florida
AT 5TH ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2009 @ The Historical Museum of Southern Florida

Miami    -   On Friday  February 27 , 2009, at its 5th annual celebration for Black History Month, delancyhill P.A., in collaboration with the Historical Museum of Southern Florida (HMSF), the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau,  as part of the HMSF preview of the Black Crossroads: The African Diaspora in Miami exhibition, will honor former county commissioner Betty T. Ferguson for inspiring change, community engagement and building bridges in the African Diaspora of South Florida.  The invitation-only reception and preview will host clients, firm partners, Visitors Bureau members and community leaders at 6:00 PM in the Historical Museum of Southern Florida located at
101 W. Flagler Street
, Miami, FL 33130

For more information or to RSVP call  786-777-0184.

This commemorative 5th year celebration of Black History Month inspired the law firm of delancyhill, P.A. to create the award of Firm Partner Star, previously offered to Ruth Shack, Dorothy Jenkins-Fields, David Wilson, and Babacar M’Bow for their contributions to uplifting African-American communities of South Florida

'The recent election of our 44th President, Barack Obama, reminds us of the personal power that one citizen can make when engaged in their local communities.  We are inspired by Commissioner Ferguson’s passion for community engagement and elevating our voice to the highest level of government,” stated Marlon A. Hill, partner, delancyhill.

This year’s honoree, Betty Ferguson, is a community organizer, educator, and former county commissioner for Miami-Dade County. As the founder of UP-PAC (Unrepresented Peoples Positive Action Council), over twenty years ago, Commissioner Ferguson has been a catalyst for political and economic empowerment in South Florida’s Black community by inspiring change at the grassroots level.  Every Saturday morning at 9 a.m., UP-PAC faithfully meets at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church for lively debates, while seeking answers to challenging community questions and finding actionable solutions for community needs.

“In 2009, we will be recommitting ourselves to the core values of America.  As a friend and community partner to our Firm, we are moved by the spark of Ferguson’s work and accomplishments, commented Michelle A. Delancy, managing partner of delancyhill.
