This commemorative 5th year celebration of Black
History Month inspired the law firm of delancyhill,
P.A. to create the award of Firm Partner Star,
previously
offered to
Ruth Shack, Dorothy Jenkins-Fields,
David Wilson,
and Babacar M’Bow
for their contributions to uplifting
African-American communities of South
Florida
'The recent election of our
44th
President, Barack Obama, reminds
us of the personal power that one citizen
can make when engaged in their local
communities. We are inspired by
Commissioner Ferguson’s passion for
community engagement and elevating our voice
to the highest level of government,” stated
Marlon A.
Hill, partner, delancyhill.
This year’s honoree, Betty Ferguson, is a
community organizer, educator, and former
county commissioner for Miami-Dade County. As the founder of UP-PAC
(Unrepresented Peoples Positive Action
Council), over twenty years ago,
Commissioner Ferguson has been a catalyst
for political and economic empowerment in
South Florida’s Black community
by inspiring change at the grassroots
level. Every Saturday morning at 9 a.m.,
UP-PAC faithfully meets at Greater New
Bethel Baptist Church for lively debates,
while seeking answers to challenging
community questions and finding actionable
solutions for community needs.
“In 2009, we will be recommitting
ourselves to the core values of America. As a friend and community
partner to our Firm, we are moved by
the spark of Ferguson’s work and
accomplishments, commented
Michelle A. Delancy,
managing partner of delancyhill.
