Miami City Ballet, the
internationally acclaimed dance company under the artistic
direction of Edward Villella, recently hosted a World
Premiere Celebration at Adrienne Arsht Center for the
Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The event commemorated
the first performance of a brand new work NIGHTSPOT
created for Miami City Ballet’s dancers by world renowned
modern dance choreographer Twyla Tharp, set to music
by singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, with costumes
designed by Isaac Mizrahi.
The Celebration took
place at the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House
immediately following a 7:30p.m. performance. The post show
festivities included a Black Tie on stage dinner dance with
honored guests Twyla Tharp and Elvis Costello and a
simultaneous Party called “NIGHTSPOT Lounge” in the
Peacock rehearsal room hosted by Partners en Pointe.
During the on stage
dinner Elvis Costello sang an impromptu
rendition of
My Funny
Valentine, an unexpected treat for the guests at the
party.
Miami City
Ballet’s Celebration Drawing took place on stage during
the performance intermission. The drawing featured a
remarkable array of gifts such as: a dazzling $50,000 Graff
diamond necklace; a Neiman Marcus-Merrick Park $5000
shopping spree complemented by a stay at the Connaught Hotel
– with butler service – in London; a one week voyage for two
aboard the all-suite cruise line Silversea; and a 7-night
stay at a five-star, luxurious penthouse condominium in
Steamboat Springs, Colorado, courtesy of Dr. and Mrs. Murray
Zedeck. Tickets for the drawing were available for $250 each
with only 1,000 tickets being sold.
Chairmen of the event

Honorary Chairmen were Nancy Jean Davis and Ophelia and Juan
Js. Roca. Honorary Co-Chairs were Betty Madigan Brandt and
