The rain outside didn’t
stop the 450 guests in attendance for
the American Heart Association’s 45th
Annual Gala and Auction from having an
amazing evening. On Friday, May 16,
2008 people from the Long Island medical
and corporate community arrived at the
Carlyle on the Green to participate in
the evening which raised a record
breaking $720,000. The Heart Gala and
Auction is an annual social event held
to recognize outstanding accomplishments
of individuals and companies in the area
of cardiovascular science and
leadership.
The focus of the 45th
Annual Gala & Auction is Children’s
Heart Health. Learn and Live is a rally
cry for our children. The American
Heart Association is committed to
helping our children live stronger,
healthier lives through education,
research and public policies that effect
where they live, work and play.
The guests enjoyed an
evening that included a silent auction,
a live auction conducted by WCBS-TV,
Channel 2 Meteorologist, John Elliott,
entertainment by the Times Square
Orchestra, dinner and dancing.

the honor of co-chairing this year’s
Gala. The recipient of
the 2008 Corporate Leadership Award
was Matthew D. Serra, Chairman of
the Board and CEO of Foot Locker, Inc.
Dr. Akram Boutros, Executive Vice
President and Chief Administrative
Officer for St. Francis Hospital and
President of the Long Island Board of
Directors for the American Heart
Association received the 2008
Cardiovascular Science Award.
