Producing team Stewart F. Lane and
Bonnie Comley brought us three Broadway
hits this theater season.
Cyrano
De Bergerac,
The 39
Steps and
Sunday
in the Park with George have
all been nominated for Tony awards and
Drama Desk Awards with
The 39
Steps and
Sunday in the Park with George
both winning both Tony’s and Drama
Desk Awards.
Alfred
Hitchcock's,
The 39
Steps, was recreated as a
comedy that follows the adventures of
the hero Richard Hannay, as he
encounters immoral murders,
double-crossing secret agents, and, of
course, astonishingly beautiful women.
It features four fearless actors,
playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of
exciting action.
The 39 Steps
won the 2008
Drama Desk Award for
Unique Theatrical Experience and
Outstanding Lighting Design (Kevin
Adams). It was nominated for one other
Drama Desk Award, Outstanding Sound
Design (Mic Pool). It won two
Tony Awards on June 15
2008 for
Best Lighting Design
and
Best Sound Design and
was nominated for four other Tonys.
Sunday
in the Park with George
is a classic
musical inspired by
the painting "A
Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La
Grande Jatte" by
Georges Seurat. A
complex work revolving around a
fictionalized Seurat immersed in
single-minded concentration while
painting the masterpiece. The Broadway
production won the 2008
Drama Desk Award for
Outstanding Orchestrations (Jason Carr)
and Outstanding Projection and Video
Design (Timothy Bird and The Knifedge
Creative Network).
Sunday
in the Park with George was
nominated for five other Drama Desk
awards and for nine Tonys.
Their
last show,
Cyrano de Bergerac, has been
described as "the soulful
poet/philosopher and brilliant swordsman
Cyrano, a cadet in the French Army, who
falls for the beautiful, strong-willed
Roxane, but is too ashamed of his large
nose to tell her. The casting of two
dedicated and beloved actors in Kevin
Kline and Jennifer Garner garnered
excellent reviews and sold-out audiences
during this limited run.
Cyrano de Bergerac
was nominated the 2008
Drama Desk Award for
Outstanding Actor in a Play (Kevin
Kline) and was nominated in the 2008
Tony Awards for Best
Costume Design of a Play (Gregory Gale).
