"SARAH
EHRLICH, NEW YORK RESIDENT
and Jill Zarin of The
Real Housewives of New York
City FOCUS ON GIVING
WHEN
THE MARKET IS TANKING"
|
|
Kisii,
Kenya -
It
may be
thousands
of miles
from the
glamour
of 5TH Avenue
or
anything
star-studded,
yet
celebrity
and
socialite
Jill
Zarin
of The
Real
Housewives
of New
York
City and
Help for
Orphans
International’s
Sarah
Ehrlich
made it
their
business
to help
turn the
dreams
of
orphans
into
reality.
The new
Help for
Orphans
International
School
Kisii
Kenya,
which
supports
150
children,
opened
last
month.
The
school
opened
despite
the bad
American
economy
that is
effecting
every
country
in the
world,
including
Kenya.
Sarah
Ehrlich
and part
of her
team
from
Help for
Orphans
International
attended
the
event.
The
event
was
filled
with
African
singers
and
dancers. A
large
festival
featuring
entertainment
from
local
musicians
and
home-grown
cuisine,
including
two
traditionally-prepared
cows,
helped
celebrate
the
grand
opening.
More
than 400
people
attended
this
ribbon-cutting
ceremony
and
festivities.
“This
is a
rare
event
in
the
Western
part
of
Kenya,
says
Mageti.
“We’re
so
fortunate,
especially
in
these
difficult
financial
times
in
America,
to
have
financial
support
from
Help
for
Orphans
International
in
building
this
school.
So
many
people
were
moved
by
our
event
and
what
Sarah
Ehrlich
and
Jill
Zarin
did
here.
Many
of
those
people
including
our
Chief
SAMSON
R.
ONSERIO
and
many
other
government
officials
shared
those
feelings
during
the
ceremony.
Ehrlich
worked
with
Zarin
on
two
summer
fundraisers
in
the
Hamptons
which
completely
paid
for
this
new
school
for
orphaned
children.
“During
this
time it
is near
impossible
to raise
funds
for
charity.
We are
just
keeping
our chin
up and
promoting
our
butts
off.
It’s the
only
thing
that
works in
horrific
financial
times
like
this.
“We’ve
seen the
trend of
celebrities
like
Madonna,
Oprah,
Bono,
Angelia
Jolie
and Brad
Pitt
successfully
help the
people
of
Africa.
In
recent
good
times
we’ve
seen
everyday
people
contribute
to
causes
outside
of
America.
I have
seen
first
hand
this
help
positively
impact
the
future
for so
many
kids who
live
such an
uncertain
life. I
just
hope it
continues
while
Americans
are now
suffering
and have
uncertainty
for
themselves
and
their
families.
We help
create
jobs for
orphans
in other
countries
through
farming.
Times
are so
tough
right
now in
America
I might
have to
stop
working
with
orphans
in 3rd
world
countries
and
start
teaching
ex-bankers
in
America
farming.
But all
kidding
aside,
we are
in need
of
donations.
The
children
we work
with are
100
times
worse
off than
the
poorest
American
children
regardless
of the
stock
market
says
Ehrlich.
Along
with
this
recently
built
school,
Help for
Orphans
International
has
renovated
other
schools
for
orphans,
provided
a
systematic
reading
and
study
skills
program,
donated
hundreds
of
textbooks,
vaccinations,
clean
water
and even
cows to
give the
children
milk to
drink
and
sell.
