HONORED AT NATIONAL COMMITTEE ON U.S.-CHINA RELATION’S ANNUAL GALA,
OCTOBER 16th AT
THE PLAZA HOTEL
An A-list of notables from the worlds of international
business, politics and entertainment turned out Wednesday,
October 16th at
New York’s Plaza Hotel
to see
IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond
and
Alcoa Chairman and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld
honored at the annual gala for the
National
Committee on U.S.-China Relations.
The nearly 600 attendees included former U.S.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger; current Ambassador
to the U.S. from the People’s Republic of China Cui Tiankai; actor
Oliver Platt; Blackstone
Group Chairman and CEO Stephen Schwarzman; former AIG
Chair and CEO Maurice
Greenberg, CEO of C.V. Starr and Company; and Yue-Sai
Kan, the popular television star often called “China’s
Oprah” who presented award to Gelfond. Gelfond and Kleinfeld
were honored for their companies
long-term investments and commitment to constructive relationships in
China.
IMAX currently has nearly 150 theatres open in China and a
commitment for up to 260 additional theatres across the
region. IMAX has developed relationships with China’s
leading studios and exhibitors, and the recent WTO
agreement— which brings 14 additional IMAX or 3D films to
China annually beyond the current quota of 20 foreign films—
benefits Chinese theatergoers and the American film industry
alike.
Alcoa is the largest foreign investor in the Chinese
aluminum industry, with facilities in Beijing, Shanghai and
Suzhou creating solutions for the packaging, commercial
transportation, consumer electronics, industrial products,
automotive and aerospace markets. Alcoa recently earned the
“Top Green Company in China” and “Multinational Companies
with Contribution to Public Welfare in China” awards

understanding of China and the United States among citizens
of both countries
