High Tea
Kickoff for
The
Retreat's
Upcoming 17
Artists
Against
Abuse Gala
|
Philanthropists
Joan &
George
Hornig
hosted a
lovely
mid-afternoon
fete to
welcome
summer on
the
sprawling
grounds of
their
magnificent
Water Mill
estate. The
celebration
not only
helped
kick-off the
season in
the Hamptons,
but also
helped to
launch The
Retreat's
largest gala
of the year;
the 17th
Annual
Artists
Against
Abuse
Benefit.
This year,
the Benefit
will honor
Joan Hornig
by bestowing
the Hope
Award to
Joan for all
her work in
philanthropy,
as well as, Sag Harbor artist Dan Rizzie. The Retreat
is the only
domestic
violence
agency on
the East End
of Long
Island
offering
comprehensive
services to
both women
and
children.
The
"High-Tea"
event
delighted
guests with
a selection
of sparkling
wines, beer
and juices
and such
teatime
classics as
cucumber
sandwiches
and cold
poached
salmon. The
Hornigs were
gracious
enough to
open up
their newly
restored
150-year-old
barn (the
only one of
its kind on
the East
End), which
will serve
as a
showcase for
emerging
artists, as
well as,
display
works from
their
international
art and
antiques
collection.
Guests were
able to bid
on silent
auction
items by
some of the
industry's
top
retailers
and
designers,
as well as
make
donations to
the Retreat
by selecting
"Buy It Now"
items.
This year,
The Retreat
will
celebrate a
milestone -
their 25th
Anniversary
at the
organization's
Annual
Benefit,
Annual
Artists
Against
Abuse on
Saturday,
June 16th,
2012 at the
Ross Lower
School
Fieldhouse.
Maria
McBride
and
Russell
Kolody
of Maria
McBride
Productions,
will
transform
the Great
Hall into
our very own
carnival
celebration!
Artists
participating
include
Eric Fischl,
Dan Rizzie,
John
Alexander,
James
Rosenquist,
Stephen
Hannock,
David Salle,
Eric Ernst
and many
others.
After
cocktails
and
delectable
appetizers,
guests will
enjoy a
sumptuously
prepared sit
down dinner,
prepared by
local chef
Peter
Ambrose
of Pete
Ambrose
Events
Catering and
Hamptons
Seafood
Company.
After a
quick
welcome from
Ringmaster,
award-winning
broadcaster,
producer and
host
Bonnie Grice,
they will
bestow the
Hope Award
to jewelry
designer and
philanthropist
Joan Hornig,
and to Sag Harbors very own beloved artist, Dan Rizzie.
