On Saturday
evening,
March 31,
2012 the
Peconic Bay
Medical
Center
Auxiliary
held its
Candlelight
Ball at the
Hyatt
Hotel's "Sea
Star" Grand
Ball Room in
Riverhead.
The evening
began in the
sumptuous
ground floor
with its 30
foot high
entrance
lobby with
the serving
of cocktails
and hors
d'oeuvres.
These were
delightful
and seemed
endless.
The event
then evolved
up to the
third floor
with its
elegant
reception
room which
has classic
arched
windows and
was
beautifully
lit and had
a huge
display of
the various
auction
gifts.
The ballroom
was then
opened and
one entered
this
stunning
area which
was
elegantly
decorated
with an
array of
large
candles on
each table
and with the
live music
of a
20-piece
authentic
swing band
(mid 1930's
through the
early
1950's).
The guests
danced to
this
glorious
music.
The main
sponsors
were Elaine
and John
Kanas whose
contribution
a few years
ago made it
possible for
the building
of the Kanas
Center for
Advanced
Medicine.
Emilie and
Michael
Corey are
one of the
two honorees
of this
year's
event.
Emilie is a
retired
geriatric
social
worker and
Michael is a
retired
managing
director of
JP Morgan.
They both
serve on a
host of
committees
on the East
End and NYC.
The second
honoree is
Michael
Dempsey,
M.D., the
"Physician
of the
Year", and
is a
graduate of
Harvard
University
and
Dartmouth
Medical
School. He
has served
at Riverhead
Medical
Specialists
as Chief of
Medicine and
as
Vice-President
of the
Medical
Executive
Board.
Robert Klein
served as
host and is
a Tony and
Grammy Award
Nominee. He
was, in
1975, the
first
comedian to
appear in a
live concert
on HBO and
has
subsequently
done seven
one-man
shows on
HBO. He has
done many
notable
films
including
"The Owl and
The
Pussycat".
His
performance
was enjoyed
by all and
was both
witty and
intelligent
and truly a
souvenir
memory.
