campaign of
giving is
off to a
great start
as they
raised more
than
$200,000 at
the 7th
annual UNCF
"A Mind Is…"
Hamptons
Summer
benefit,
held August
18-19.
Former HBCU
president
Dr.
Johnnetta B.
Cole and
media titan
Edward Lewis
were honored
for being
trailblazers
of education
and voices
of the
unheard. Dr.
Cole
reminded
attendees
during the
weekend
affair that
“If you want
to go fast,
go alone,
but if you
want to go
far, go
together.”
Master of
ceremonies
Don Lemon
from CNN and
Dr. Michael
L. Lomax,
UNCF's
president
and CEO,
kept the
program
lively with
their
contagious
energy and
led the
fundraising
charge with
a special
appeal,
raising
nearly
$15,000 from
guests in
attendance.
Close to 200
guests
attended the
celebratory
weekend,
including
celebrity
stylist Ty
Hunter and
actor
Sarunas
Jackson of
the HBO hit
series
“Insecure.”
Many
participants
left feeling
inspired and
ready to
champion for
education
and the
important
work UNCF
work UNCF
does to help
deserving
students get
to and
through
college.
