Canary Wharf Gears Up for the Ultimate
 Family Weekend

Motorexpo returns to Canary Wharf
from Monday 6 – Sunday 12 June 2011

The UK’s biggest free motor show, Motorexpo is set to rev-up proceedings at Canary Wharf welcoming some 400,000 visitors.

In a week-long celebration of automotive achievement from 6-12 June, the iconic business and shopping district will showcase an astonishing array of many of the world’s latest and greatest vehicles from leading motor manufacturers such as Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Nissan, Vauxhall and many more.

This popular annual event not only attracts motoring enthusiasts from far and wide but those looking for an enjoyable day out in a dynamic modern metropolis. As a popular weekend destination, Canary Wharf will be buzzing with activity over Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June as Londoners and those from further afield enjoy its world-class lifestyle offering.

Motorexpo visitors will have the unique opportunity to get behind the wheel of some of the most important, yet-to-be-launched high mpg and low carbon cars at Drive the Future in Canary Wharf’s Montgomery Square. A fitting location given Canary Wharf Group is one of Britain’s greenest companies and has a number of electric vehicle docking points throughout its estate.

Elsewhere, in the RaceRoom in Jubilee Place, visitors can go head-to-head on state-of-the-art simulators to win the chance to live the life of an F1 star for the day and drive at Hungary’s famous Hungaroring circuit. Daring drivers can also pit their skills against those of former F1 World Champion, Nigel Mansell OBE, who will set his own time on the simulator.

The Stars of Disney Pixar brand new international spy adventure, Cars 2, will be making an exclusive appearance at this year’s Motorexpo in Canary Wharf, London. Leading race car Lightening McQueen will be on display at the motor show all week and be joined by his new co-star Finn McMissile, voiced by Michael Caine, between Monday and Wednesday. Cars 2 is the eagerly awaited sequel to Cars which grossed nearly $462 worldwide and is due for release in the UK on 22 July 2011.

Those keen to explore further afield at Canary Wharf will discover a vibrant destination characterised by its art, culture, iconic architecture and exciting restaurant and shopping. Motorexpo is not only a chance to enjoy one of the UK’s finest motor shows but an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a day out. Whether it’s lunch at one of Canary Wharf’s leading restaurants, including ROKA, Plateau, the parlour, Canteen, Rocket, Jamie’s Italian and, most recently, Boisdale of Canary Wharf, or a foray into fashion at one of Canary Wharf’s leading brands, this dynamic community has something for everyone.

Popular with those with young children in particular, Canary Wharf is clean and safe, offering 20 acres of landscaped plazas and green open paces to explore. Those who prefer art to automobiles will enjoy Canary Wharf’s award-winning public art offering, consisting of an impressive 60 permanent works of art by over 45 artists including Ron Arad, Bill Culbert and Lynn Chadwick.

Sian Astrop, Arts & Events Manager at Canary Wharf Group comments: “Motorexpo is one of the flagship events on the UK’s motoring calendar. It signals the start of summer for Canary Wharf, and with it comes buzzing crowds of people and a relaxing atmosphere. We have a fantastic few months of arts and events lined up and Motorexpo is a spectacular way to kick-start the summer.”

Graeme Carver, Motorexpo CEO, adds: “Motorexpo is this summers ‘don’t miss’ automotive event and we are looking forward to an exciting show. Our roster is brimming with leading mainstream and prestige car manufacturers in addition to a number of captivating new features for 2011 - so it will come as no surprise that we are anticipating our biggest ever audience. Add to this our superb setting at Canary Wharf, with its world-class transport, retail and dining facilities, and I believe it is clear why the Motorexpo continues to grow each and every year”.
