Palm Beach Gardens - On March 23, 2010, the Palm Beach Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) kicked off it’s Man & Woman of the Year event. All of the candidates and nearly 100 guests gathered at a cocktail reception hosted The Phillips Point Club by The Breakers.
On hand to get the kick off started were Mo and Sally from KOOL 105.5 and Honorary Chairman, Victor Blackwell. Tiffany Kenney stepped in for the evening to help and announced that Kristin Hoke, Honorary Chairman, is looking forward to meeting everyone at the Grand Finale.
The candidates for 2010 include: Mark Anderson of Merrill Lynch, Cash Ealey of Business Vision Network, Joey Fago of Palm Health Partners, Valerie Fiordilino of Total Image Salon & Spa Oasis,
Dr. Dana Goldberg of Palm Beach Plastic Surgery Center,
Nicole Haboush of Allied Yacht Charters, Kyle Lidinsky of Cemex, Lori Schlegel of LS Interiors Group, Michele Stanek of Fannie Mae, Donna Weinberger of FlyersPostcards/Liiv.com and
Sherry Zabriskie of Florida Legal Search.
These candidates will fundraise for a two month period, in hopes of winning the title of Man or Woman of the Year. Judged solely on a philanthropic basis by generating funds for the LLS, candidates who raise the most “votes” (each dollar raised is equivalent to one vote) will be crowned Man & Woman of the Year.
To inspire the candidates, the LLS chooses a Boy & Girl of the Year. It is in their honor that the funds are raised. The Boy of the Year is Alex Wexelman, 16 years old, an ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) survivor and the Girl of the Year is Jessica Milanese, 5 years old, an ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) survivor, as well. Dr. Brian Cauff, 2009 Man of the Year, introduced Alex who spoke about his experience being diagnosed and going through the treatment process. Dr. Cauff also reiterated the importance of raising funds to accelerate the cure rates for childhood and adult blood cancers.
Following a ten week fundraising period, the Man & Woman of the Year will be announced at the Grand Finale at The Cohen Pavilion on June 4, 2010. The winners will be featured on buses throughout Palm Beach County, in local print media and on WPBF 25 News.
Sponsors for this year’s event include WPBF 25 News, Lamar Advertising, and
KOOL 105.5 FM.
All proceeds raised by the candidates will benefit LLS. The mission of the LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
