Off Broadway, Heidi Schreck gives a powerful
performance, supported by cast members Justin Kruger and Adam
LeFevre. in How The World Began, by Catherine Trieschmann,
about a biology teacher teaching in rural, religious Kansas, and the trouble
caused by an innocent remark in class. We celebrated the opening night at
West Bank Cafe with Betsy Aidem, Deirdre O'Connell and Sue Jean
Kim.
Chinglish held a press conference and
celebration of its 100th performance at Lin Sing Association in Chinatown,
with the seven cast members, director Leigh Silverman, playwright
David Henry Hwang and members of the Chinese-American Community,
including politicians. Delicious Chinese food was served.
The new cast, which includes Veanne Cox, Nancy
Dussault, Katie Lee, Eve Plumb and Lillias White, of Love,
Loss, and What I Wore celebrated at B. Smith's Restaurant. As always,
it's a fun occasion.
I attended the dress rehearsal of The Peony
Pavilion, by the China Jinling Dance Company of Nanjing, at the David H.
Koch Theater. The dancers are talented, the selections we saw were
fascinating, and the costumes were sumptuous. They offer four performances
from January 5-8.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association's (MDA) 15th Annual Muscle Team Gala & Benefit Auction at Chelsea Piers is one of the best events of the season. Football, baseball and soccer players, boxers and jockeys attend, besides lovely cheerleaders from the NJ Nets, beauties from Hooters, gorgeous Alyssa Campanella, Miss USA, adorable April Maroshick, Miss South Shore Long Island Teen USA, and pretty jockey Maylan Studart from Brazil. Of course, being English my only sports interest is cricket.
Crazy Horse, by Frederick Wiseman, 2011, is a film every devotee of Paris will want to see. It will play at Film Forum from January 18 - February 7. It is a documentary about the famous nude dance revue in the legendary night club, that was founded in 1951. The young ladies are gorgeous, sensual and erotic, and we see them in their dressing rooms, auditioning, rehearsing and performing in their new show Desir, choreographed by Phlippe Decoufle. I suggest you book a plane ticket immediately to see them in the flesh, if you pardon the expression
