I attended a press preview at The Frick Collection,
1 East 70th St. Elective Affinities: Edmund de
Waal at the Frick Collection May 30-November 17,
2019. It is the first museum installation by the
artist in the United States. The sculptures are
created from porcelain, steel, gold, alabaster and
glass, and are placed in front of various paintings
in all the galleries. It is a splendid addition and
quite unusual. Lovers of art will enjoy seeing his
work. The Frick is always worth a visit. It is a
jewel among all the wonderful museums in New York.
Nureyev, written and directed by Jacqui
Morris and David Morris, UK, 2019, is
being presented at Film Forum, June 7-20. I knew Nureyev,
reviewed his classic and modern ballet appearances,
photographed him many times, and admired him as one
of the finest dancers of the twentieth century. I
was disappointed with this film. Lasting 109
minutes, I learned nothing new about the great
dancer. The addition of scenes by modern dancers,
choreographed by Russell Maliphant, imitating
his life were a distraction. The quotes before some
scenes were banal. The highlight of the documentary
were the short scenes from ballets, especially with Margot
Fonteyn.
Artistic Director/Founder Susan Charlotte presented KT
Sullivan (photo

accompanied by Jon Weber at the piano, at Cause
Celebre Musical Brunch Series at Chez Josephine,
414 West 42nd St, in a concert of Barbara Cook songs.
It is always a delightful series, and the food at
the wonderful restaurant is delicious. It is one of
my favorite events.

The New York City Ballet presented A
Midsummer Night's Dream ,
music by Felix
Mendelssohn ,
choreography by George
Balanchine .
It is a delightful full length ballet, and the
company performed beautifully. As Titania, Sara
Means was
outstanding, as always, and in Act II in
Divertissement, Ashley Bouder was
exquisite. Among the male dancers, Harrison
Ball gave
a splendid performance as Puck, and Peter
Walker was
a humorous Bottom. The orchestra, under the
direction of Daniel
Capps ,
played the lovely score superbly. The season
ended on a high note
One of my favorite events took place at the Neil
Simon Theatre. The 2019 Theatre World Awards were
presented to twelve Broadway or Off-Broadway
Debut Performance Nominees. They received their
awards from presenters like Rosemary Harris,
Geneva Carr and Neil Simon's widow Elaine
Joyce. Two special honorees were Dorothy
Loudon Award Winner Hampton Fluker, presented
by Lionel Larner, and the John Willis
Award Winner for Life Time Achievement to Nathan
Lane (photo
below with presenter Danielle Brooks), presented
by Kristine Nielsen and Julie White. Peter
Filichia was the humorous Ceremony Host, and
Board President Dale Badway closed the
evening, thanking all those present. We
congratulated the winners at a party at
Copacabana. It was an enjoyable evening.
If you want to enjoy a splendid evening, go to
the Jue Lan Club, 49 West 20th St. The Rose
Garden is a lovely place to eat delicious food,
and sample two magnificent Rose wines from the
Provence, Whispering Angel and Palm from Chateau
D'Esclans, Domaine Sacha Lichine. I attended a
press preview. The Chinese food with the fine
Rose wines was superb. For a perfect evening
under the stars, spend a night at Jue Lan Club.
