Off-Broadway, Regrets, by Matt
Charman, takes place in 1954 in Nevada, where one had to go to
obtain a divorce. Four men await the six week time period necessary
in dilapidated cabins, and we learn about their failed lives. One
can well understand why their wives want to get rid of them. The
opening night party took place at Beacon restaurant with guests
Colman Domingo, Maryann Plunkett and Jay O. Sanders.
Now.
Here. This. book by Hunter
Bell & Susan Blackwell,
music & lyrics by Jeff Bowen,
is like a continuation of their first {title
of show}, where the four friends recall their early lives in
school and reunite for a visit to the Museum of Natural History,
which features great projections. It is a pleasant way to spend 100
minutes with affable performers. They celebrated their opening night
with guests Brooke Shields and Sutton Foster. The
party was at Little Town NYC next door to the Vineyard Theatre,
The MCC Gala Miscast 2012 at the Hammerstein

Silber among many others.

Vucciria, 635 Ninth Ave is a new
restaurant, and I attended a wonderful wine and food tasting party. The
hors d'oeuvres by the chef Kristin Sollenne were delicious. and
included involtini de melanzane with imported bufala ricotta, with mint
leaves, truffle pecorino with grapes, pecorino toscano with strawberries
and honey and tomato crostini with basil and fontina cheese. And the
meatballs were out of this world. This will be one of the most popular
restaurants on Ninth Ave.We visited
another fine restaurant, 5 and Diamond, 2072 Frederick Douglas
Boulevard, for a reception for The Glimmerglass Festival. Besides
eating delicious hors d'oeuvres, we had the pleasure of hearing
Metropolitan Opera star Eric Owens, and two young excellent
singers, Crystal R. Williams and Chase Taylor, each
perform one operatic aria and one popular song. Artistic Director
Francesca Zambello spoke about the upcoming season, which
sounds terrific. It was a splendid evening of wine, food and song.
Lynne Meadow, Hunter Parrish, Blair Underwood,
Cynthia Nixon and Michael McKeon were the panelists at Drama Desk
luncheon at Sardi's.
New Directors/New Films 2012 until April 1 held
another Industry Happy Hour, this time at MoMA. The cocktails keep critics
and industry people in happy spirits, while watching the impressive films.
Film Forum will screen Post Mortem, by Pablo
Larrain, Chile/Mexico/Germany, 2010 from April 11 - 24. I attended a
press screening of the film, about a typist in a morgue in the capital of
Chile, with the background of the 1973 the military uprising against the
President Salvador Allende. The protagonist is witness to the bloody
events, but on a personal note, he is obsessed with a neighbor, a cabaret
dancer, with whom he begins a sexual relationship, ending in tragedy. It is
a strange, provocative, well acted film, which leaves a memorable
impression.
