2014 New York Drama Critics Circle Awards at Studio 54 Below. 254

Due to a swelling of my
right knee Inflammatory
Osteoarthritis,
which made it painful to
walk, I was forced to
cancel many events this
week. Fortunately, it
improved, and I will be On
the Town again.
The 2014 80th Drama
League Awards
ceremony and luncheon at
the Marriott Marquis
Times Square is always a
splendid event. A
Gentleman's Guide to
Love and Murder won
the Distinguished
Musical, All
the Way Distinguished
Play and Neil
Patrick HarrisDistinguished
Performance. Hedwig
and the Angry Inch and The
Glass Menagerie were
the Distinguished
revivals of a Musical
and a Play. A multitude
of actors were on the
dais, including Denzel
Washington, Daniel
Radcliffe, Tony Shalhoub and
too many more to
mention.

The 2014 New York Drama Critics
Circle Awards is
another superb event at Studio
54 Below. The Best Play was The
Night Alive, The Best
American Play was All
the Way and the Best Musical
was Fun
Home. Two special citations
were given to Twelfth
Night and Richard
III, and The
Apple Family Plays. Danny
Burstein and Linda
Edmond were
the co-hosts, and presenters
included Sutton
Foster, Jim Norton and
Oskar
Eustis. Among the many
guests were Michael
Cerveris, Judy Kuhn and Betsy
Aidem.
There was a lovely opening night
reception for Launchpad
of the American Theater: The
O'Neill Since 1964. The
exhibition is on display at the
New York Public Library for the
Performing Arts at Lincoln
Center. Among the many guests
were Penny
Fuller, Ted Chapin and
Lynne Meadow.
