Off-Broadway, The
Killer, by Eugene
Ionesco, was to open
May 29, but changed the
opening night to June 1.
I will write my comments
in the next column. A
party was still held in
the lobby of the Theatre
for a New Audience in
their new theatre in
Brooklyn with guests David
Hyde Pierce, Sigourney
Weaver and F.
Murray Abraham.
Just Jim Dale,
written and performed by Jim
Dale opens
June 3. I will write my
comments in the next
column.
The New York City Ballet
presented Jewels,
a Balanchine classic.The
three sections began
with Emeralds,
music by Gabriel
Faure. It is a slow
moving classical ballet,
well danced, in
particular by Ashley
Bouder and Amar
Ramasar, one of the
two lead couples. Rubies,
music of Stravinsky,
is a more modern style
ballet, with the superb
soloist Teresa
Reichlen, and a fine
leading pair, Megan
Fairchild and Joaquin
De Luz as
the lead couple. The
highlight is the third
ballet, Diamonds, music
of Tschaikovsky,
with a magnificent Maria
Kowroski and Tyler Angle leading
a wonderful, large
ensemble. It was a
memorable night at the
ballet.

American Ballet Theatre (ABT)
presented La
Bayadere, choreography by Natalia
Makarova after Marius
Petipa, music by Ludwig
Minkus. It is always a
spectacular ballet, made this time
an incredible experience, with two
magnificent leads, Olga
Smirnova and Vadim
Muntagirov. There are no words
to describe Smirnova. She just
floats on the stage, with perfect
technique. It is a joy to watch her
flawless performance, Muntagirov is
her equal, and danced beautifully. Heo
Seo as
the frustrated bride-to-be was
excellent, and Aaron
Scott was
sensational in the last act as the
Bronze Idol. Another fine night at
ABT.
As no photos
were taken this week, I will include two
photos from last week. One at the 67th
Village Voice Obie Awards where one of
my favorite actresses, Estelle
Parsons, was honored with a Lifetime
Achievement Award. The other at Sardi's, at
a book party hosted by the Actors Fund forLauren
Pizza's Meant
to Be: The Lives and Loves of a Jersey Girl,
where her daughter sang with a male friend.
Not with her son, as I wrote in the original
column.
05-20-14 Estelle Parsons received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the
Village Voice Obie Awards at Webster Hall. 125 East 22th St. Monday night.
