The nominations for the 68th Annual Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards were announced by Jonathan Groff and Lucy Liu with a surprise appearance by Hugh Jackman at the Diamond Horseshoe in the Paramount Hotel. Among the five plays nominated were All The Way andCasa Valentina. Among the four musicals were Beautiful - The Carole King Musical and A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder. Among five best actors in a play were Bryan Cranston and Mark Rylance, and actresses were Audra McDonald and Estelle Parsons, Actor in a musical Jefferson Mays and Bryce Pinkham and actresses Sutton Foster and Jessie Mueller. All well deserved.
We photographed the Nominees at the Paramount Hotel Wednesday morning April 30. On June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, the winners will be announced.

Off-Broadway, Inventing Mary Martin, by Stephen Cole, is a pleasant revue by four talented singers recalling the life of the wonderfulMary Martin. For 90 minutes, we listen to the songs she made famous on film and on Broadway. She was unique, charming, and irreplaceable. The opening night party took place at Lexicon, 226 East 54th St, with guests like Karen Ziemba, Warren Carlyle, Faith Prince and Charles Strouse, plus many more celebrities.

The National Meniningitis Give Kids a Shot! at the New York Athletic Club was a splendid affair. Among the guests were Liv Ullmann, Heather Randall, Rod Gilbert and Joe Sirola. After a cocktail reception, the guests sat down to a wonderful dinner and fine entertainment. Among the honorees were ABC Medical Correspondent Richard Besser and Errol Rappaport. Gary Springer and his sonNick deserve to be commended for the magnificent work they do for this important charity.

Legendary pianist/composer Irving Fields celebrated his 99th birthday at Nino's Tuscany Steakhouse, 117 West 58th St. We toasted him with wine and beer, and a birthday cake presented to him by restaurant owner Nino Selimaj. Irving plays at the restaurant from Tuesday to Saturday.

The 2014 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards were presented at the Hudson Theatre. Among the winners was Linda Cho, who received the Young Master Award from her director Darko Tresnjak of A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder. It is always a marvelous event and the awards are well deserved.

MoMA presented Ongoing An Auteurist History of Film. Hori Ma Panenko (The Firemen's Ball), by Milos Foreman, Czechoslovakia, 1967, is a comedy, which makes fun of an event in a small town. Apparently, the firemen's union and the communist party were not amused, and the director was forced to seek asylum in the United States. It is an entertaining film about the party mentioned in the title, with a large cast of eccentric characters.

MoMA is presenting Marco Bellocchio: A Retrospective until May 7. Diavolo in corpo (Devil in the Flesh), France/Italy, 1986, is an adult film, with many daring sexual scenes, about an older, neurotic woman (Maruschka Detmers). While her fiance is in jail, she engages in a passionate affair with a high school student. The actress gives a fearless performance, and the film is quite provocative for its time.
