On Broadway, an all-star revival of Follies
opened with Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Danny
Burstein and Ron Raines. It is fine
production and the cast is excellent.
Off Broadway, the Elevator
Repair Service offered The Select (The Sun Also
Rises), based on Ernest Hemingway's
novel. The cast is wonderful, and the performance
was excellent, and we celebrated the opening at
Phebe's Bar and Grill with guests like Michael
Greif, Lynn Cohen and Heather Randall.
Completeness, by
Itamar Moses, is a well acted play, takes place
on a university campus, and we see highly educated
young adults involved in relationships without
achieving emotional maturity. There is nudity. The
opening night party at the Heartland Brewery
attracted many fellow actors, like Judd Hirsch,
Peter Friedman, Lois Smith, Frank Wood and
Lauren Kennedy.
Play It Cool is a
wonderful Off Broadway musical with a fine cast,
starring Sally Mayes. The opening night
celebration was held at the West Bank cafe and
Tovah Feldshuh was among the guests.
The same night Dally with
the Devil opened and I will see it at a later
date. It deals with political intrigue,and I did get
to meet the cast at the opening night party in the
lounge of Theatre Row.
Crane Story is mixture
of myth, realism and impressive puppetry, based on a
Japanese tale, with fine acting by a cast headed by
Christine Toy Johnson and Angela Lin. A
celebration for opening night took place at Perilla.
There was a photo op with the
cast of The Atmosphere of Memory, starring
Ellen Burstyn, at the Labyrinth new West Bank
Theater.
I attended a reception and Q &
A before the performance of Barriers, and met
the playwright, director and one of the cast
members, Pooja Kumar, who is a film actress,
but making her debut on stage. She was a former Miss
India USA.
