annual
Skating with
the Stars
gala brings
in
over
$800,000
On Monday,
April 7th,
2014, Figure
Skating in
Harlem (FSH)
presented
its annual Skating
with the
Stars Gala
at Trump
Rink in Central
Park.
During the
event, FSH
honored
Figure
Skating
Champion Michelle
Kwan,
President of
Sean John, Jeff
Tweedy,
and Founder
and CEO of
Dylan's Candy Bar, Dylan
Lauren.
All three
spoke
passionately
about the
hard work
and
dedication
FSH students
put into
their
academic
pursuits, as
well as the
life lessons
learned
through the
discipline
of skating.
The event
raised over
$800,000 for
this
pioneering
program
combining
education
and skating
to transform
young lives
and help
girls from
upper Manhattan and
The Bronx
achieve
academic
success,
physical
health, and
emotional
well-being.
Figure
skating
stars,
including Gracie
Gold, Ashley
Wagner, Jeremy
Abbott, Jason
Brown, Polina
Edmunds, Scott
Hamilton, Sasha
Cohen,
and many
others
attended the
gala in
support of
FSH.
Although ice
skating was
cut short by
a heavy
rainfall,
guests
mingled with
the athletes
and got
autographs,
took photos,
and just
enjoyed the
chance to
interact
with these
champions.
They were
joined by
the likes of
actress and
producer Tamara
Tunie,
tv
personality
and designer Carson
Kressley,
E! News
correspondent Alicia
Quarles,
US Bobsled
Team member Jazmine
Fenlator,
and tv news
and sports
personalities Andrea
Joyce and
Harry Smith.
The gala's
private
dinner at
the Central
Park
Boathouse
found
pinnacles of
fashion,
business,
and
philanthropy
enjoying a
lovely
celebration
of FSH,
including
honoring
this year's
five
graduating
seniors. Iman, Isabel
and Ruben
Toledo, Michael
Bloomberg, Tracey
Reese, Kenneth
Cole, B
Michael, and Tina
& Terry
Lundgren,
were just
some of the
dinner's
notable
guests.
Funds from
this year's
gala will go
towards the
new "The
Future Is
Now"
campaign,
which will
help engage
even more
children and
spread FSH's
core values
of
resiliency,
hard work,
teamwork,
and
leadership
to girls in
other
under-resourced
communities.
