On Thursday, March 28th at Pier 60, Bailey House
held its 30th Anniversary Auction & Gala. Bailey
House raised half a million dollars for its programs serving
individuals, families and LGBT youth impacted by HIV/AIDS
and other chronic illnesses. At the Gala Dinner, Bailey
House honored actor Alan Cumming; Harlan Bratcher, President
& CEO of A|X Armani Exchange; Bingham McCutchen LLP; and
more than 30 legendary activists and advocates who,
together with Bailey House, led NYC's earliest response to
the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Alan Cumming said of Bailey House, “I love organizations
that just do very basic things like [Bailey House], which
gives people a roof over their head…There’s not so much
bureaucracy and nebulousness; it’s really very basic, very
primal
and very crucial.”
Television anchor and journalist Jane Pauley presided over a
star-studded evening. Wendy Williams, of The Wendy
Williams Show, presented Alan Cumming with his Arts &
Legacy Award for his long history advocating on behalf of
Bailey House clients.
Tom
Viola of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS accepted the
Rodger McFarlane AIDS Warrior Award on behalf of individuals
representing Community Health Project, AIDS Treatment Data
Network, and PWA Coalition of NY. Terrence Meck of the
Palette Fund presented both Bingham McCutchen and Harlan
Bratcher with the Rand Harlan Skolnick Corporate
Responsibility Award, for their corporate philanthropy and
their broad social consciousness.
The gala evening was followed by the renowned Bailey House
Auction conducted by auctioneer George McNeely. George was
joined on stage by Alan Cumming, who started off the evening
by auctioning off tickets to his upcoming Broadway show
Macbeth, a Liza Minnelli Meet & Greet package and an
all-inclusive trip to the Edinburgh Summer Festivals donated
by Edinburgh Festivals and Orbitz. The Live Auction also
included such highlights as an all-expenses-paid trip to the
Kentucky Derby, donated by Moët & Chandon; a week-long stay
at a French chateau donated by Chris Herrmann and Joseph
Lorino; portrait sittings by the artists Mark Beard and
Andres Serrano; a trip to Gaia Hotel and Reserve in Costa
Rica and a Custom Made Suit by the designer John Bartlett.
The silent auction featured more than 300 items, including
artwork by Jimmy Ernst and Andre Kertesz; two business class
tickets to Switzerland, including two 8-day first class rail
passes,
provided by
Swiss
International Air Lines and Switzerland Tourism,
as well as many more fashion, art, home décor and

Jacobs, Giorgio Armani, Prada, A|X Armani Exchange,
Tiffany’s, Tourneau, Culture Object, Brooks Brothers, John

$15 million since its inaugural Auction. All proceeds from
the event go directly to providing housing and supportive
services for Bailey House clients – formerly homeless men,
women, children and LGBT youth living with or impacted by
