Tenth Annual National Physician of the Year Awards

The Tenth Anniversary of the Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. National Physician of the Year Awards took place on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Pierre in New York City.  The Awards recognized and honored five exemplary physicians, as well as the many thousands of other excellent physicians practicing in communities throughout the United States.  The evening began at 6:30 P.M. with cocktails followed by dinner and the awards presentation. 

 

Awards were given to physicians who are nationally recognized leaders and contributors in their specialties. 

 

The Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to physicians for their lifetime of dedication to research and practice in their respective fields.  This year, the award was presented to:

·         Michael M.E.  Johns, M.D., Professor, Schools of Medicine and Public Health; Chancellor (2007-2012); CEO, Woodruff Health Sciences Center (1996-2007) – Emory University (Atlanta, GA)

·         John B. Mulliken, M.D., Professor of Surgery – Harvard Medical School; Co-Director, Vascular Anomalies Center and Director, Craniofacial Centre – Boston Children’s Hospital (Boston, MA)

 

The Clinical Excellence Award, recognizing physicians who exemplify excellence in clinical medical practice, was presented to:

·         Henry Brem, M.D., Harvey Cushing Professor; Professor of Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Oncology and Biomedical Engineering; Director, Department of Neurosurgery; Director, Hunterian Neurosurgical Research Laboratory – Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD)

·         Kimberly Brown, M.D., Division Head, Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology – Henry Ford Health System (Detroit, MI)

·         Fabrizio Michelassi, M.D., F.A.C.S., Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor and Chairman of Surgery – Weill Cornell Medical College; Surgeon-in-Chief – NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center (New York, NY)

 

The National Health Leadership Award, awarded to individuals for outstanding dedication and work with an organization that has served to heighten the awareness for the need of support and research on that specific cause, was awarded to Anthony and Jeanette Senerchia, Founders ofThe Anthony Senerchia Jr. ALS Charitable Foundation Inc. and the Ice Bucket Challenge will receive this year’s National Health Leadership Award.

 

John K. Castle, Chairman, and John J. Connolly, Ed.D., President and CEO of Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., William Liss-Levinson, Ph.D., Vice President, Chief Strategy & Operations Officer, Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. and Jean Morgan, M.D., Vice President, Chief Medical & Research Officer, Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. were the Awards Presenters for the evening.  The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Holly Phillips, M.D., CBS News Medical Contributor, Board Certified General Internist and author of “The Exhaustion Breakthrough” (Rodale, June 2015).
