PALM BEACH, Fla. (December 9, 2011) — More than 335 animal
lovers and devoted supporters of the Peggy Adams Animal
Rescue League filled the festive room in Palm Beach for the
39th annual Christmas Ball on December 8. The
sold-out holiday event raised more than $450,000, making it
one of the nonprofit organization’s most successful events
to support its mission to rescue injured, neglected and
abused dogs and cats in Palm Beach County. The rescue league
continued the heart-warming tradition of bringing adoptable
animals to the party, which resulted in four dogs finding
loving new homes. Lesly Smith and Virginia Burke
chaired the 2011 ball.
Highlights of the evening included a receiving line of
adorable pets greeting guests with tails a-wagging as they
arrived on the red carpet, as well as an animal parade later
in the party to the tune of “How Much is that Doggie in the
Window?” for patrons to get a second look. Holiday lights,
garlands and festive Christmas trees decked the halls of the
club, and tables were topped with “doggie topiaries” that
guests were able to “adopt” for a suggested donation. A
Peggy Adams pet boutique featured designer dog and cat beds,
dog dishes, collars, leashes, carriers and more for sale.
Guests also received the Peggy Adams’ 2012 Publicity Hound –
an annual publication filled with pet photos and more, a
favorite tradition of this event.
In addition to the chairwomen, notable guests and loyal
supporters at the event included Peggy Adams Animal Rescue
League executive director and CEO Rich Anderson and
his wife, Lisa; Sam and Vicky Hunt; Beau and Jackie
Breckinridge; Nancy Brougher; Brandon and Diane Reid; Janet
Pleasants and Michael Reiter; Jane Grace; Carol McCracken;
Robert and Carol Garvy; Dr. Steven and Laurie Gottlieb;
Daniel and Denise Hanley; Pauline Pitt; Paul and Joanie Van
der Grift; and Dr. James Walsh.
