WEST PALM BEACH, FL. February 28,
2011 – Costumes and masks did
not hide the pride and enthusiasm of the
500 attendees at the Hospice of Palm
Beach County “Black and White Masquerade
Ball” luncheon held in the Cohen
Pavilion at the Kravis Center for the
Performing Arts to honor the
organization’s hundreds of volunteers.
The luncheon took place Saturday,
February 19, 2011 and included a DJ and
dancing for the festive mid-day event.
Guests wore black and white in keeping
with the theme.
“This event honors the thousands of
hours of work that dedicated volunteers
have given to the organization…some for
as many as 30 years,” Sue Gallup,
Director of Volunteer Services for
Hospice of Palm Beach County stated. “It
is our way to say thank you to all those
who give their talents and love, in
whatever way they choose to
participate.”
When asked why she volunteers at Hospice
of Palm Beach County, Sarita Armstrong
explained, “It is a labor of love…it
brings joy to me.” Armstrong, now 80
years old, has volunteered with the
organization for 30 years. “Hospice of
Palm Beach County has done so much for
the community. The people there are so
loving
and kind.”
Armstrong added that she has been told
she doesn’t look her age. She still
drives herself to perform her volunteer
duties, which includes weekly music
therapy sessions. Her physical health
has curtailed patient care and other
duties. “I can’t just sit around,
I was brought up to give back…we are not
here forever.”
Hers is just one story of inspiration to
anyone at any age.
“The dedication of our volunteers is
remarkable,” said Dave Fielding,
President and CEO of Hospice of Palm
Beach County. “They give so much to our
Hospice family. We could not achieve all
that we do without them.”
Ages 14 to 95, volunteers take time from
their lives to give back to the
community. The luncheon honored those
who have dedicated themselves to the
organization and recognized those who
have done so for more than 15 years.
Hospice of Palm Beach County invites the
community to learn about the volunteer
opportunities available for all ages
including: administrative duties, Resale
Shop associates, patient visitors, as
well as a variety of other duties. In
addition, the organization has a
volunteer program for professionals in
the community who are able to donate
their services such as: massage
therapists, lawyers, accountants, and
numerous other fields.
