Over 200 attend JFS
Pre-Passover Model Seder
Boca Raton, FL—[March 30, 2015]— Over
200 clients of Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services (JFS)
joined together at JFS’ Pre-Passover Model Seder, held at
B'nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton on March 24th.
Danielle Hartman, JFS President and CEO said,
“The seder is
open to any client of the agency, whether they use services
for seniors, case management, the food pantry or benefits
for Holocaust survivors.
"We've been holding these seders for
15 years," Hartman continued. "It allows our clients who may
or may not be able to go to a seder on the actual holiday to
get a taste of the holiday and to get out and have some
human connection. Our clients look forward to it all year."
Said JFS client Marc Goldsmith stated “I am
glad I came and excited to see how other people lead a seder.
I was one of the ‘hidden children’ raised in a convent in
Belgium during the Holocaust. Passover is a special holiday
for me as it is the celebration of freedom.”
JFS Director of Community Engagement, Rabbi
Josh Broide led the service, along with parachaplains
Estelle and Harry Green. Students from Donna Klein Jewish
Academy participated in the seder by reciting the Four
Questions and singing traditional seder songs.
Residents of the Boca West Federation
Committee sponsored the event for the seventh year in a row,
along with Debbie & Howard Belford, and Suzanne and Jack
Jacobson.
Debbie Belford commented on what a great
event the Model Seder is. “It is important for our
community’s seniors to be able to celebrate Passover with
friends. For many of them, this is the only seder they
have.” Suzanne Jacobson added, “I feel like my parents are
at this event. Being raised in an Orthodox home, I remember
that our entire family traveled from where ever they were to
be home for Passover. This event provides a family
atmosphere and I love being a part of it.”
Hartman concluded: "There is just no way we
could do this event without the generous contributions from
the wonderful people of Boca West, the Belfords and the
Jacobsons. We at JFS are grateful for their partnership.”
