JOHNS HOPKINS WOMEN’S HEALTH CONFERENCE A SUCCESS
Guests applaud keynote and lecture speakers for inspiring
and important topics |
(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) -- The latest findings on women’s
health issues and new advances in preventing, detecting and
treating diseases in women were presented recently during
the sixth annual Johns Hopkins women’s health program “A
Woman’s Journey” symposium. The conference took place at the
Palm Beach County Convention Center and featured speakers
during breakfast and lunch as well as presentations by eight
Johns Hopkins’ doctors.
Nearly 300 people filled the ballroom and meeting rooms to
listen to Johns Hopkins’ doctors and specialists discuss new
medical treatments and health including ailments of the gut,
spinal disorders, the advantages of turmeric,
and the impact
of stress and anxiety. A panel discussion led by Dr. Paul
Rothman, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns
Hopkins Medicine, revealed innovations concerning the
development of cartilage for the knee,
to personal devices
to monitor an individual’s health and the role of DNA
testing to detect ovarian and endometrial cancers.
The event’s breakfast session featured Sorrel King, mother
and author, who shared her poignant account of her family’s
tragic loss and how it has transformed health care to vastly
improve patient safety for each of us.
“As women, it is important that we gain the knowledge about
gender-based differences in diseases and empower ourselves
to make wise decisions about health care for us and our
families,” said Susan Keenan, who along with Lee Callahan,
Betsy Meany, Norma Tiefel and Susan Telesco co-chairs the
event. “In its sixth year, ‘A Woman’s Journey’ continues to
attract motivated women of all ages, and to provide medical
information from the only hospital ranked #1
for 21
consecutive years
“A Woman’s Journey” is the creation of two women from
Baltimore, MD.,
Harriet Legum and Mollye Block, who together
realized the need to provide women with a forum to gain
knowledge about their health concerns.
A Woman’s Journey is funded in part by Sabadell Bank &
Trust, Patrick M. Park, Susan Telesco, Braman Motors,
Betteridge and individual underwriters.
