Opportunity, Inc. kicked off a
yearlong celebration of its 75th
Anniversary by returning to
Bethesda-by-the-Sea, the home of its
origins. The Commemorative
Service on Wednesday, October 30th,
2013 honored the early founders and
those who have supported the
organization through the years for their
foresight, generosity and commitment to
those less fortunate in the community.
Reverend James Harlan, and Kate E.
Kelderman, officiated. Reverend Harlan
took this opportunity to commend the
early founders and spoke to the
importance of educating children and the
need to continue to work towards
building brighter futures for those most
in need.
A reception followed the Church Service.
President Terry Fox thanked the guests
for their support and reminded them that
the Opportunity Early Learning Center
was at the forefront of working to solve
economic inequality, poverty and crime
through early education programs and
parental programming. “Children in
deprived circumstances can have a chance
to succeed if we are able to positively
impact their development at an early
age. At Opportunity Inc. we have
accepted this challenge, and are
considering expansion to double or
triple the capacity of those we serve”.
A video highlighting the rich history of
the organization was launched. The
highlight of the day was a performance
by the children at Opportunity as they
sang “He’s Got The Whole World In His
Hand” and the original craft pieces the
proceeds of which were used to support
Opportunity from 1939 – 1973.
Opportunity Early Learning Center
offers low cost, quality preschool child
care, educational programming and parent
