When Opportunity Knocks,
the Community Responds
Palm Beach's
Oldest Charity Looks to Expand
Palm Beach society gathered at Mar-A-Lago
Tuesday, November 17, to launch Opportunity Knocks,
Opportunity Early Childhood Education &
Family Center's capital campaign.
Drs. Amos and Maria Dare hosted the night of cocktails,
dinner and information.
"I have been involved with Opportunity
for the last five years, I have seen the difference this
school makes in the lives of children,"
said Maria Dare. "Expanding this
amazing center means more children in our community will
have the opportunity to succeed."
For more than 75 years Opportunity Early
Childhood Education & Family Center has offered a second
home to the children of working families in Palm Beach
County. Now Palm
Beach's oldest charity needs a new
home.
"We are at capacity and we have been for
the last five years," said
Opportunity Executive Director Ali Eger. "There
are 300 children on our waiting list, so every day we have
to turn hopeful parents away. The
new campus will allow us to offer a high quality preschool
education to more children and supportive programs to their
families."
Opportunity Knocks, seeks to raise $16
million to create an endowment for the organization and
build a new campus on the corner of Donnell Road and
Westgate Avenue in West Palm Beach. The 3.7 acre campus will
allow the school to serve up to 200 children. Construction
is expected to begin in the summer of 2016.
Since 1939, Opportunity Early Childhood
Education & Family Center has been providing developmental
programs for the children of working families in Palm Beach
County. Opportunity currently serves 96 children, ages 6
weeks to 5 years.
