second
annual Palm
Beach
Infectious
Disease
Institute
science and
research
dinner at
their Palm
Beach home
on January
13th. Dr.
John G.
Bartlett,
world-renown
leader in
the field of
infectious
disease, was
guest of
honor. Dr.
Bartlett
spoke on the
history of
AIDS from
its earliest
diagnosis
and the
tragedies
suffered by
patients
inflicted
with this
disease,
through the
current days
and the
miraculous
standard of
treatment
now
available to
prolong and
save lives.
Dr. Istvan
Krisko M.D.
Ph.D.,
founder and
president of
the
institute
and
Chairwoman
Elizabeth
Neuhoff,
provided an
overview of
PBIDI’s
current
research
studies and
upcoming
educational
programs.
Among the
guests were
the
institute’s
board of
directors,
Mrs. Carlota
Busch
Webster, Dr.
John Whelton,
Mr. Russell
Greene, Mrs.
Marigil
(Gil) Walsh,
and Ms.
Julie Warren
Criser.
Other guests
included Dr.
Gordon
Dickinson
and Dr. Lisa
Plano,
research
scientist
from the
University
Of Miami
Miller
School Of
Medicine,
and Ms. Mary
Lampe, who
recently
joined the
Palm Beach
Infectious
Disease
Institute as
Executive
Director.
Mr. Roger
Neuhoff and
Admiral
Phillip A.
Whitacre,
additional
members of
the board of
directors,
were unable
to attend.
J ohn
G. Bartlett,
MD, is a
Professor of
Medicine in
the Division
of
Infectious
Diseases at
The Johns
Hopkins
University
School of
Medicine in
Baltimore,
Maryland. He
served as
Chief of the
Infectious
Diseases
Division at
Johns
Hopkins for
26 years
before
stepping
down in June
of 2006.
Dr. Bartlett
is a past
President of
the
Infectious
Disease
Society of
America and
has also
served on
editorial
boards for
19 medical
journals.
He has
authored
over 500
articles and
reviews in
peer-reviewed
journals,
280 book
chapters,
and 67
editions of
18 books.
The Palm
Beach
Infectious
Disease
Institute (PBIDI)
was founded
in 2001 by
Dr. Istvan
Krisko M.D.
Ph.D. to
further
serve the
needs of
Palm Beach
County and
Southern
Florida.
The mission
of PBIDI is
to engage in
clinical
research and
education in
order to
impact the
treatment
and
prevention
of
infectious
diseases. A
primary
focus for
PBIDI is
research on
MRSA and the
causes and
ramifications
of this wide
spread
antibiotic
resistant
staph
infection.
