Spring
arrived in Palm Beach in the form of
the Palm Beach Opera
Guild Luncheon and Fashion Show
April 6 at The Breakers. Hats
and splashes of color were in
abundance as the more than 230
members and supporters of Palm Beach
Opera Guild gathered for
the group's 11th Annual Luncheon and
Fashion Show, this year featuring
Neiman Marcus. Palm Beach Opera
Guild President
Arlette Gordon welcomed the guests,
including Grand Benefactors Florence
DeGeorge, Mary M. Montgomery and M.
Mac Schwebel.
The event began with a silent
auction and prize drawings featuring
luxury items and collectibles from
many of the area's finest merchants.
An Opera Interlude was performed by
Palm Beach Opera's Young
Artists Greta Ball and R. Kenneth
Stavert with accompaniment by
Bruce Stasyna on piano. Selections
included operatic favorites by
Bellini and Puccini and upbeat
Broadway tunes from West Side
Story and South Pacific.
Luncheon Chairwomen Gail Worth,
Carol Weltz and
Anneleise Langner were joined by
Opera Guild Officers
Claire Chasanoff, Elizabeth Bowden,
Lisa Koeper, Suzy Minkoff, Charlotte
Kimelman, and Barbara Weimer, along
with Opera Guild members Sigrid
Baumann, Carol Berliant, Florence
Gaynor, Estelle Fassler, Sandra
Goldner, Hermé deWyman Miro,
Jacqueline Goldman, Phyllis Gurwin,
Ingrid Kosowsky, Carla Mann, Maria
Murphy,
Ari Rifkin, Bernise Rosenbloom, Judy
Zacker and Virginia Zeani,
among others. Also attending the
gala affair were Opera Board
Vice President Muriel Shapiro,
Treasurer Hans Bauman and Board
members Gladys Benenson, Rita
Denerstein, Ronnie Isenberg as well
as Palm Beach Opera General Director
Daniel Biaggi and Maestro
Bruno Aprea.
The Palm Beach Opera Guild promotes
awareness of opera in our community.
Proceeds from the Guild's Annual
Luncheon support the Opera's
education and outreach programs
including the annual
Vocal Competition.
