The Salvation Army Celebrates 40th Annual
Christmas Ball

3 December 2011 (Palm Beach, FL) – The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County held their 40th Annual Black-tie Christmas Ball on Saturday, December 3rd.  This year’s Anniversary ball included special guest speaker, Mr. Rudy Giuliani, due to his embracement of The Salvation Army during the 9/11 attacks on New York City ten years ago.  This celebratory event took place at The Beach Club in Palm Beach, FL with Mr. Walter Ross sponsoring The Salvation Army at the venue.

During the event, individuals took party in a VIP reception where they were greeted by Mr. Rudy Giuliani and his wife Judith.  Photos were taken with the Mayor to commemorate the evening.  The Giuliani’s mingled with guests and joined in on bidding for the silent auction items.  Once guests entered the ballroom, Major Thomas McWilliams, The Salvation Army Area Commander for Palm Beach County introduced the Mayor; “Mayor Giuliani and I met ten years ago at ground zero, when I was acting Red Zone Commander of The Salvation Army Operations.”  The Mayor himself gave a 30 minute speech on Leadership and allowed Salvation Army guests to ask him a few questions.

This annual fundraising effort supports local Salvation Army programs in Palm Beach County; transitional housing for the homeless, drop-in centers for youth, correctional services for Federal pre-release inmates, social service assistance including food, clothing and financial assistance, spiritual support through their many churches and whenever disaster strike, the Salvation Army mobile canteens provide support to the area.  All of the money raised during the Christmas Ball and all fundraising events for The Salvation Army stay in this county to support area individuals and families in need.  The Salvation Army has been serving Palm Beach County residents since 1922 by providing food, clothing, shelter, and support for those less fortunate.

Ambassadors for the Christmas Ball included Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation.  Benefactors included Cathleen Cox McFarlane Charitable Foundation, Inc., Mr. Walter Ross, Leo and Kathryn Vecellio and sponsorship was provided by David and Kimberly Ackerman, Robin Bartosh, Braman Motor Cars, Ralph and Ann Glendenning, Henry and Leslie Jamison, Addison and Mary Helen Keim, Stephen and Cathy Moore, School Investment Properties, Inc., E.T. and Pamela Strickland and the Honorable Lesly Smith.
