(WEST PALM
BEACH) –The South Florida Science Museum gala
host committee had a scien-terrifc adventure going
under the sea and roaming with the dinosaurs during
a recent pre-event celebration for the upcoming
March 30th, 2012 gala What Lies
Beneath: An Evening of Nautical Mystery and
Adventure. Guests heard plans for the upcoming
Gala at The Breakers featuring Dr. Robert Ballard,
oceanographer and discoverer of the Titanic.
During the
evening, guests and their children were treated to
the first look at the Museum’s newest traveling
exhibit, Dinosaur Attack, on display through May
13. Curators Robert DePalma and Rudy Pascucci spoke
to the group about the dinosaurs including the
70-million-year- old dinosaur bones on display. The
event also had guests petting sharks and touching
undersea creatures in the aquarium as well as craft
activities for the kids and a laser light show in
the Museum’s planetarium.
Oceanographer
and deep sea-explorer, Dr. Robert Ballard will be
the featured presenter at the Museum’s Gala to be
held in the Circle Dining Room at The Breakers, Palm
Beach. The elegant evening will
feature a cocktail
reception and dinner followed by Ballard’s special
presentation discussing undersea explorations and
his discovery of the RMS Titanic.
“Our committee
has come up with an event that is not the usual fare
for Palm Beach fundraisers,” said Lew Crampton,
President and CEO of the South Florida Science
Museum. “We’ve planned a truly remarkable evening
with Robert Ballard, the world’s premier undersea
explorer, intended to directly immerse our guests in
the mysteries and legends of what lies beneath our
magnificent oceans. No one does this better than Bob
Ballard, and we’ll allow plenty of time for
questions so all who attend will come away wiser and
understand more about our Earth’s underwater world.”
Honorary
chairs for the 2012 Gala are Frances Fisher, Matthew
Lorentzen and John Niblack. Host Committee Chairmen
are Liz and Matthew Fifield, Allison and Stuart
Haft, Afsy and Carter Pottash, and Karly and Heath
Randolph.
Sponsors
for the Gala include: Grand Benefactor PNC Wealth
Management along with Corporate Sponsors Betteridge,
Florida Power and Light, and Saks Fifth Avenue Palm
Beach.
Media Sponsor is Palm Beach Illustrated.
