102-Year-Old Hospice Patients
Wish Comes True
Sylvia Knyper Goes Fishing One
Last Time
October 13, 2015 West Palm Beach, Florida
Proving one is never too old to dream, or in this case,
fish, 102-year-old Sylvia Knyper made known her dream to go
fishing one last time. Sylvias
hospice care team, the hospice Foundations, and several
hospice volunteers came together to plan a morning of
fishing at Phil Foster Park. Coordinating a challenging set
of logistics, including medical support, the group created
Sylvias
field trip of a lifetime, in the process fulfilling the
centenarians
very special wish. The joy was evident on Sylvias
face as she caught several fish one recent Saturday morning.
Hospice made my 102nd birthday
wish come true, Sylvia beamed. I had such a wonderful day
with all of the caring people from hospice.
The outing would not have happened without
the efforts of Louise Price, Cassandra Randle, Maura Taggart
and Lauryn Barry. The women teamed up to facilitate
transportation, other necessities and even the fried fish
lunch that followed the mornings
fishing. Greg Leach, President of the Foundations comments,
It is so gratifying to see the lengths that hospice staff
and volunteers go to see our patients wishes
fulfilled. Its
a challenge they live up to in ways large and small, seen
and mostly unseen, every day. He continued, Im
honestly not sure who was more excited to see this dream
come true, Sylvia or the women who made it happen.
