Perseus Telecom, a global provider of connectivity,
today announced a strategic alliance with the
Oceanic Society, a non-profit conservation organization
whose mission is to preserve marine wildlife and habitats
worldwide. Perseus Telecom is a strong advocate for
environmental health; striving to identify worthy causes,
such as the Oceanic Society’s State of the World’s Sea
Turtles (SWOT) Program and other conservation science
projects established to help protect the world’s oceans.
Marine conservation awareness is driving this alliance with
the aim to gain exposure and industry attention on how to
best leverage telecommunications as a primary and most
efficient choice of conducting business around the globe.
Perseus Telecom delivers ultra-fast connectivity service
while having an “ultra” low impact environmentally. By
utilizing a dispersion compensation methodology, the firm
delivers faster processing equipment using existing
submarine assets and shorter cable paths. Financial firms
are able to minimize non-essential travel by providing
teleconferencing options to conduct transactions in an
environmentally friendly way while being seamless and
secure.
Roderic Mast, Executive Vice President of the Oceanic
Society, comments, “We are extremely grateful for Perseus’
commitment to ocean conservation. It is both uncommon and
admirable for a company to be so proactive in minimizing its
environmental impact and supporting conservation work.
Beyond financial support to our work, Perseus has already
made significant efforts to minimize their environmental
footprint. Through this partnership, we look forward to
working together to identify new opportunities for Perseus
to continue its leadership in sustainable global
telecommunications.”
Over the course of the year, Perseus will donate resources
to support the SWOT program. SWOT is a global collaboration
among sea turtle researchers to assess sea turtle
distribution and status and inform improved conservation and
management efforts around the world. Oceanic Society will
also help Perseus look for additional opportunities to be a
leader in sustainability within the telecommunications
industry.
The strategic alliance came from the desire of Perseus
Telecom CEO, Dr. Jock Percy, to give back to the oceans
where Perseus’ global telecommunications cables lay. Dr.
Percy notes, “Perseus has established methods of green
connectivity whilst still be the fastest cable system,
cutting down distance and energy usage. We are dedicated to
preserving the world’s oceans by minimizing waste and are
confident the Oceanic Society is a wonderful way to give
back.”
